So far i have not seen any good plugins to delete old comments. My website thatmusicblog.com was on autopilot for a year without akismet and racked up literally 484,000 comments. I was not going to go through deleting them 20 at a time, and all the plugins i tried just didn't work.
SQL Command to Delete all Pending Comments In Wordpress:
After reading about myPHPadmin, i was slightly scared to log into the backend and send a script to the mySQL database.
Its easier than it sounds.
- log into godaddy
- launch hosting control center and select databases > mySQL
- If you know your database password, skip to #2. if you don't, continue
- if you don't know your username and password, you'll have to change it. IF YOU CHANGE IT, you must also go into the FTP file manager and tell wordpress you've changed your password, i'll explain how below.
- click the pencil on the far right, next to "Manage via phpMyAdmin"
- click the password button on top nav
- put in a new password. you must remember this password and put it into the wp-config.php file.
- hover over content, right click "FTP file manager" and "open in new window"
- change the "page size:25" to "page size: 50"
- scroll down until you see "wp-config.php", click it and select "EDIT" on the top nav bar
- THIS FILE IS VERY IMPORTANT, DON'T FUCK THIS UP...
- press ctrl +f to bring up the find function and type the word 'password' without quotes
- here you will see a line: define('DB_PASSWORD', 'old_password');
- update 'old_password' with the new password you created. make sure quotes are included on the file.
- if you changed anything else, you fucked up.
- click the little "save" icon on top left.
- Select Manage via phpMyAdmin
- Login with username password
- click the SQL icon to enter code, it will bring up a new window.
- Below are 3 different ways to edit your comments.
- After each query it will update another window, and it will say "xyz fields updated in abc seconds"
- You can refresh your website comments section to see if changes are happening.
