Lock the Mac Dock - Reset Apple Dock on Restart

This tip makes it so when your computer is restarted, the dock items are automatically reset. for example, you let a child use your computer and the internet/mail/itunes apps disappear from the dock. a simple restart will bring them all back.

First, Bring up the finder or click on the hard drive.

On the left, click on the user tab(mine says blair - because thats my name)

Click Library

Click Preferences

Preferences has a LARGE list of files, scroll until you see "com.apple.dock.plist"

Click on com.apple.dock.plist ONCE and (on the right) you should see a descriptions and a button appear that says more info.

Click "more info"

in the middle of the tab you will see a checkbox that says "locked" check the box then close the tab.

you have now locked your dock. anything added to it will or taken off of it will be reversed upon reset. simply go back and unlock it if you'd like to add or remove a program from your dock.
